Spring Umbro Industries Winners Are Announced
Congratulations to Rocksteady Tea Party and The New Mancunian, who were the winners this weekend at the Spring Umbro Industries final. Karen Gabay, who presented the Rocksteady Tea Party idea, wins £7,500 to fund her idea, while Dan Parrott of The New Mancunian wins £2,500.
Karen's idea is to celebrate the legacy of reggae, dancehall and rocksteady music in and around Manchester. The Rocksteady Tea Party would involve the filming of a short documentary featuring archive footage and modern interviews. The film would then be screened at an event aiming to bring together different generations of music fans with a tea party, dancing and DJs.
The New Mancunian is a project aiming to produce a weekly online music magazine showcasing the best Mancunian music, developed by Dan Parrott, the brains behind local record label Love & Disaster. The aim of the site would be to provide both established and upcoming bands from around Manchester with a platform to showcase their talents, and give local music fans a hub where they can find event listings and an online community. The money provided by Umbro Industries will help Dan to set up a website and get the ball rolling on The New Mancunian project.
If you think you've got an idea that would impress the Umbro Industries panelists, then you can submit your ideas to the site for the Summer round now. Just head over to Ideas and upload your suggestion to be in with a chance of winning!
