One69a: a creative collective who push boundaries&capabilities; to save the world with their printing, design, photos, workshops&writing;.

Submitted by one69a.

One69a would like to save you with just their bare hands (and some silk screens, nice coloured ink, photography and lots of adjectives). We’re here to make things look better everywhere and stop you from turning completely grey. Although we’ll print in grey if you want. From t-shirts to tea towels, signs to album covers, we print good stuff onto other stuff. There are pictures on our blog and Facebook - you can see us hanging projects up to dry with clothes pegs in our basement studio.

We are the founders of one69a: Mark Jermyn and Sally Gilford. After graduating from BA (Hons) Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2007 we became involved in various projects, including jobs as a graphic designer, events organiser, teacher, backpacker, community artist, photographer, sandwich deliverer, bartender… the list goes on. Our determination to do whatever it takes to be creative 24/7 is relentless. It makes us feel human.

The collective consists of two core strands: creative workshops (in partnership with the Zion Arts Centre, Hulme) and product screen printing. We would like funding to develop these existing concepts and also to expand into other areas. We provide a bespoke service, printing a range of products to a variety of specifications. Our demand is rapidly growing and we need to purchase additional printing equipment to allow us to reach the potential of which we are capable. Congruent to this demand will be the need to move to bigger premises if steady growth continues.

“One69a’s aim is to host sessions to inspire and educate young people. Through hands on learning and experimentation, our work promotes the importance of confidence and self worth gained through creativity. Participants explore their capacity for ideas and development and nurture their individuality. The sessions provide young people with creative practical skills and knowledge to raise aspirations for their future.”

Additional capital would help to maintain this aim and expand the workshops as we could buy more equipment, thus allowing larger groups and furthering our creative capabilities. Consequently we could reach those in the community who would benefit the most.

We have strong links with MMU Art School and are developing a volunteer scheme where students work with us in exchange for invaluable work experience. We would like to develop this into a mentoring programme for students from MMU who are thinking of starting their own projects in the creative sector. We already have a writer, workshop facilitator and designer working for us on a voluntary basis. We know of many more who want to get involved. We would also like to collaborate with other artists in order to explore our idea for a fanzine publication whose output is intrinsically linked to a more alternative marketing method for us.

The demand for what we do is rising and our potential to develop into something bigger and stronger is more than present. We want to grow to represent Manchester’s exceptional creative talent, and additional funding will help take us there.

Amount Applied For: 10000
