beats vs fashion
This project aims to combine the magic of passionately played edgy electronic music with the aesthetics of fashion and the human body.

Its been a while since we (a friend and I) got the idea of beats versus fashion. It simply emerged out of two hobbies of best friends around 2005, he was into music and I into fashion. Now he is based in Berlin where he plays every so often whereas I am based in Manchester, planning to launch a label called Jamie Ree. Over the years I discovered that the idea was a product of its time as more and more concept stores (e.g. Hugo Boss Orange in Berlin) combined fashion with art exhibitions and more importantly here, with DJ sets. But although there is lots going on in this direction, I have not found exactly what we are looking for - that the two elements complement each other naturally. Its not the music that serves the catwalk (which is already terribly good realized at e.g. the MTV Designerama Show where 'Fashion meets Music'), its both elements stimulating each other to an extend that gives the audience/party folk nothing but goosebumps. This idea can be realized on both a small or a big scale, with names of the industry or not well known artists. The crucial point is, that the show is not set up with a commercial background (selling the clothes or creating a brand image that helps selling the clothes), its purely about the 'how' can one achieve the synergy of the aesthetics of the human body with (or with almost no) clothes with the pumping beats of edgy and experimental electronic music. Although collaboration with big brands of the fashion industry is imaginable, beats vs fashion would be an excellent platform to showcase some of the young and lesser known fashion designer, stage or set designer, creative students or simply arty people. Important here is the teamwork between the performers or 'creative directors' of the fashion bit with the DJs in advance, to make the perfect interaction possible. It is the preparation that will be immense fun as there are little limits due to the lack of the commercial constraints. We spent hours daydreaming about settings, locations, beats, models and the overall picture of hundreds of people peacefully celebrating themselves in a so openly creative atmosphere. Its clubbing with art, perhaps the most suitable form of art for a club.
