The Northern Song Collective

The Northern Song Collective (NSC)is a co-operative of songwriters, musicians, artists and producers.

Submitted by Doc88.

The Collective are heavily influenced by the strong creative themes, and the innovative songwriting thought behind musical forces such as Tamla Motown and Tin Pan Alley. We understand more-than-ever-before that it is the guy (or gal) who writes the songs that hold all the cards.

We have several different branches of the Collective:

  1. 11 'nucleus' members who are writing and producing a 'contracted' amount of songs per month. The 'Song-List' from each month will be uploaded to the main Collective website. The website will act as a monthly magazine where labels, publishers and artists can listen to the Collective's songs from that given month. The site will be fully interactive and will allow site-visitors to vote for their favourite tracks by using song-counters etc. The site will focus its main promotion on the 11 artists and producers, this is the main drive of The Northern Song Collective. Members are signed on a yearly contract but the line-up can change during the years period. It is hoped that to begin with that the NSC will act as a 'springboard' to its members, helping them attain publishing contracts and establish good relationships with larger companies etc. Almost like a good 1st Division football team with a good youth policy, hence the 11 members ;) ( We already have 16 very talented and interested parties from which to choose the first 11 and are still looking)

  2. As well as a monthly 'Song-List' the site will have links to the NSC YouTube Channel. Every month the channel will feature a free 5-10 minute song-writing lesson from an chosen NSC member. Also, a live performance of the winning track from the previous months 'Song-List' by the NSC writer/s themselves.

  3. The main NSC site will feature a FORUM. This is a free feature where songwriters will be able to discuss songwriting and interact with each other, establish partnerships etc. Although free you will have to 'sign-up' to become a member of this. Members will also be given the opportunity to themselves be 'rated' by the Collective 'star-rating' system. They will be charged a small fee for this feature and it will allow forum visitors to see the 'skill' of other songwriters involved within the forum.

  4. We are in the process of contacting higher education colleges about Masterclass sessions with NSC members for college students.

We already have the help and backing from Ronan Keating's manager Mark Plunkett, also the MD of Ronan's publisher's, Stuart Hornall of Hornall Bros, as well as Sean Divine, vice-president of ASCAP.

All we need now is some money to kick-off... ;)

cheers
