An Online video channel devoted to one of the world's greatest music scenes: Manchester
Submitted by MCRscenewipe.
There were many sad faces when Channel M Music went down the pan last year, so Sam Alder and Toby Potter’s Manchester Scenewipe has arrived at the ideal time. The site’s premise is to capture exclusive and unusual performances from both local and touring acts; what started out as fun has gathered enough pace to feature unique appearances from the likes of Bombay Bicycle Club, The Futureheads, Of Montreal, Peter Bjorn & John and Scroobius Pip. The local community meanwhile is represented strongly, with Badly Drawn Boy, Airship, Everything Everything, The Travelling Band, Liam Frost and many more all appearing.
This year Sam and Toby have produced specials for Sounds From The Other City, In The City Festival and also produced their 'North West Pacific Sessions' where they visited Seattle and Portland, USA, to film with local artists.
Since our last application for Umbro industries we have implemented the following features such as the music blog, featuring 8 guest writers contributing interviews, articles, live reviews and album reviews.
The aim of the website has always been to promote the hard working bands of Manchester. It's nice to know that when 1500 people a day come to see our films of The Futureheads or Bombay Bicycle Club, they will see a local Manchester Band's video right next to them, making global exposure for our local bands possible and immediate. Now we want to add to this by making the site a place that everyone can get involved in and contribute to.
The Umbro grant money would be spent on:
Expanding the website - Working with our current web designers we would use a portion of the grant money to add new interactive facilities to the website, this would include: * A bigger emphasis on the features, articles and reviews. * A forum where the music fans of Manchester and beyond can discuss current topics in the Manchester music scene. * A comprehensive gig listings page that will keep up to date with every show in the city from the M.E.N Arena to the next basement show! Grant needed - £1,500
Equipment - We have gained a great reputation through the website for documenting local arts & culture events such as In The City, SFTOC and Un-convention. Since then we have been approached by other festivals to film, but have been limited on what we can do due to lack of funds for higher spec equipment. We would use a portion of any grant money to buy additional cameras which, combined with the new improved website, we believe could take us to the level as a self-sufficient production company. Grant needed- Three Canon 7d - £4,200
