Manchester Music performed by Manchester people.
A collaborative project to celebrate the talent of UK songwriting and the diversity of British musical performance.

Every town has a musical achievement. Every city a band that has blazed a trail and provided civic pride and a sound that captures its peoples spirit. Towns and cities across the UK also have a unique cultural, ethnic and musical diversity. This project aims to capture the popularity of songs of cities and towns across the UK whilst celebrating the diversity that they also create. Here's how it works -
A vote will be cast using local press to find out what the town/cities favourite anthems are.
ie. Manchester - What are Manchesters 10 favourite songs of all time. Happy Mondays - Step On, Oasis, The Smiths, Simply Red, The Beegees?
The vote will be broadcast through regular PR channels and go right through to social networking sites and twitter trying to get a vote from as many people as possible.
At the same time groups of musicians will be recruited from across the spectrum, choirs, brass bands, young rappers, sitar players, steel bands, etc Diversity is the key.
Once the votes for the top 10 tracks are found then bands will have the opportunity to learn and perform a particular Manchester track.
The culmination is a performance where 10 diverse groups of musicians perform the cities 10 favourite songs.
After this performance 1 group is picked that performs the song the best. This group is then the ambassador for the city to go to the next Phase.
Part 2
If the project is a success in Manchester then it may be rolled out to a further 12 cities.
Once all 12 towns have picked a winning track played by a diverse and winning band/artist/group then we gather the 12 bands/artists together and record them for a CD.
They then play a musical gig either at a major music festival headlining or at a major event such as the olympics or around that time.
The final product - an event and conceivably a CD could have any combination of tracks.
A sitar version of a Franz Ferdinand track, or Wet Wet Wet played by a brass band from Glasgow.
A grime version of Blue Monday or a classical rendition of an Elbow track from Manchester?
A beatbox version of a Blur track or a steel drum version of the Clash from London.
The project aims to
Engage a large audience by using popular tracks Engage a wide diversity of performers to reproduce the tracks. Create a large scale public event. Create a contribution to charity Create a legacy and further contribution to charity through musical recordings beng sold.
We have the skills at CDH Creatives we work on large scale national events. We like to conceive and produce events and we love being creative.
