ROCKSTEADY TEA PARTY A film that showcases the Rocksteady reggae movement in a gallery setting with a `50s style tea party and reggae dance

Submitted by KazGabay.

I will produce and direct a short ten minute film that mixes vintage archive and contemporary interviews to a soundtrack of rocksteady beats.

This film will mix rarely seen old footage with people recalling their memories of going to clubs, youth dances and dancehalls grooving to Ska, Rocksteady and Jazz music in Manchester . It will also include interviews with the new generations who live for the style of the rocksteady. The film will be then be screened in a cool Manchester venue, possibly an art gallery in which we will invite people of all ages will be shown how to do the old style dances by the older generation with a DJ toasting and playing old ska tunes, rocksteady beats and Jamaican music . The film will include great stills photography, archive footage and contemporary interviews and will have a nostalgic feel to it. Taking people down memory lane improves well being and brings people together and bringing the old folks together with younger folks in a tea party setting will be something unique to the city. This style of music is undergoing a great revival particularly with the return of The Specials, the rise of Kid British and the musical The Harder They Come all proving to be extremely popular in 2009/10. The host of the event will be someone that most audiences recognise who also can inform people about the joy and heritage of the music. It will connect with people of all backgrounds and will spark memories for those who may be granddads and grandmas now but who knew to have a good time way back when.

The team will include myself, I have an excellent track record of making popular culture and heritage programmes, a cameraman and also an archivist.

This project will a new music cool to Manchester. let's get ready to do the mash potato!

With all the hoo-ha about the self-celebrating pensioners behind FAC251 it'd be great to look at the huge musical influences on Manchester from OUTSIDE the M60 for once in almost 30 years!
