Gloss-fest
Community performing arts festival.
Submitted by glossfest.
Gloss-fest was born from an idea two local Glossop lads had one day while bemoaning the fact that there is no real creative outlet for local musicians, artists, poets etc.. To share their talents with the local community without excluding certain age groups.
Our aim is to bring together all forms of performing arts, music, comedy, visual art, poetry & theatre and showcase it all on one day. Uniting the community and stimulating interest in the creative arts during an event in which people have lots of fun.
The town has never witnessed a music and performing arts festival of this type before and following early discussions with the local council, groups and press we have been given the confidence that we have their full support should the event take place.
We have the talents and man-power to deliver such an event since we are currently very active in the hospitality industry providing a range mobile bar services at various festivals, weddings and corporate events across the north of England. We therefore understand the legal requirements, heath and safety obligations and the extensive planning required to operate an event of this scale.
We are proposing a one day festival running from midday until midnight. We will charge a small fee for tickets, with under 12s attending free and aimed at getting as many of the local community to attend as possible. Depending on financial support from the local council, businesses and arts grants we are looking to hold an event based on 1500 people attending.
We have briefly summarised the activities and entertainment we are looking to provide below:
Main Stage This would be the focal point of the festival where the more successful local acts and invited bands would perform a range of styles from Jazz, reggae, rock, dub, indie and acoustic. We are looking to approach successful locals such as Vivienne Westwood and Bez from the Happy Mondays (who lives in the area) to get involved and possibly host this stage.
World record attempt! (Paper, Scissors, Stone competition) Entrants queue for their turn at an allocated time in a knock-out tournament we will even have a referee and full size boxing ring with action replay screening aimed at gaining national press interest. Official Guinness Book of Records adjudicator.
Music for Beginners A host of musicians performing at the event will also be supporting this area, proving basic tips and techniques on how to play a range of musical instruments. We will also hold group DJ workshops.
Graffiti Wall Leading graffiti artists will provide group workshops giving discussions on the history of the art and its future in society while warning the kids of the legal and moral implications of the misuse of the art.
Charity Shops We intend of offer a number of stalls for charity purposes.
Poetry Corner And open mike stage encouraging everyone to say their bit
Games Arena Nike Joga Bonita football Competition, jumbo chess/connect-4/jenga and more.

The area needs something like this. Would be great for all bands, artists and performers in the North West and the community should definitely back it I reckon.
