Company Chameleon
A new dance theatre work by Manchester-based Company Chameleon
Submitted by CompanyChameleon.
Want what the Big Man has? Power, money, fame, celebrity, cult following: Or at least a new pair of trainers? Company Chameleon are a Manchester-based dance theatre company. We bring histories, stories and archetypes to life with beauty, force and intensity. We believe that Dance is a vital method for social change. Through our performances, and through our workshops with young people, we work to support social cohesion and artistic understanding by encouraging expression and creativity. Our STRIDE programme (run in partnership with Dance Initiative Greater Manchester) works with young men (from the ages of 10 -20) across greater Manchester and introduces them to dance and challenges stereotypes of young men in dance. We engage people from diverse background and offer them the opportunity to learn dance and develop key life skills through the discipline, responsibility and social interaction that dance brings with it. Company Chameleon is led by Kevin Turner and Anthony Missen. Since 2007 they have been making work which has toured across the UK and internationally. They are currently Company in residence at The Lowry, Salford. Gameshow is the latest work by Anthony and Kevin. It is a story of desire, seduction and manipulation that explores our 21st century fascination with fame and celebrity. Gameshow will see contestants run the gauntlet in the pursuit of celebrity, enthralled by the Host: the personification of excess. Packed with physical and mental challenges, from the sublime to the wholly absurd, the work will invite its audience to spectate and pass judgement. Gameshow will premier at the Lowry on 16th and 17th November and will go on to tour the UK in Spring 2012. In the run up to opening Gameshow at the Lowry we will be running a residency programme for young people, working with young people from 10 schools across Greater Manchester to develop their own choreography and alongside our touring show, we will be running a workshop programme which will be open to anyone who wants to learn more about what we do and who is interested in developing their skills in dance. We teach young people from aged 10 up as well as working with dance students and professional dancers. We are fundraising to create Gameshow, to enable us to pay for rehearsal space, to build a set, buy costumes and commission a lighting design and original music for the work. We also need funds to support the workshops that will run alongside Gameshow.
