Borough 34

Celebrate and promote young artists, their creativity and talent by creating a stage, giving them a greater opportunity to showcase their work

Submitted by Borough34.

Borough 34 is born out of the frustration young London artists feel with the lack of opportunity they are given in the contemporary British art scene. If none of London’s 33 boroughs can afford their artists the opportunities they deserve, it’s time to create a new borough – Borough 34 – that can. Borough 34 is an imaginary London borough that travels Europe showcasing young London artists that the city itself and all it’s art galleries, fail to do. We create temporary art spaces and use them to exhibit the work of young talented British artists with a view to selling their work and enhancing their future art prospects and forward thinking music events.

As well as showcasing young British artwork, Borough 34 will be host to a series of free talks given by and debates between award winning artists. Borough 34 will be complimented by its sister project, Borough 34 music, which will stage musical events with established and up-and-coming experimental musical artists. The music events will be curated in collaboration with one of Manchester's most highly regarded across Europe nights, MeandYou which attracts internationally reputed world class DJs and will be touring German clubs this August.

The Projects simple premise is to provide a platform for young creative talent to shine.

The core of the Borough 34 project is it’s art exhibition. The work of approximately twenty artists will be showcased in the 2-3 events planned. Artwork will include sculpture, installation, video art, photography, jewellery and painting. The artists are all young recent graduates from Glasgow art school, Centrals Saint Martins arts school and Slade arts school, Salford University and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Alongside the visual arts, Borough 34 will be using the same space to showcase cutting edge, forward thinking and experimental musical events. These events will be in association with Smallville (France, Germany) and Dial Records (Germany) record labels. These events will mix established and emerging artists. Borough 34 prides itself on diversity, and our music events will draw live rock bands, experimental electronic artists, jazz brass bands, classical musicians and modern folk artists. During the music events, the artwork from the day’s exhibition will be projected across the venue.
