Idea Submission
Streets Above
Think Skins with free-running! A multi-platform drama series focussing on the boys and girls from one of the UK's top Parkour teams.
Submitted by streetsabove.
Apex Parkour and Banter Media are working in conjunction to create the series that the UK is calling out for. g Streets Above will be the UK's first true Multimedia Adventure; released as both a HD-drama series, motion comic, blog-series, docu-drama, gig nights and a mobile website; the series follows a group of free-runners who choose not to follow the path well travelled.
Instead, they take to the rooftops of the North West to get away from the woes of teenage life. The series follows the group as they fight through the daily trails of being young but whilst being blessed with the freedom to escape above it all to the streets they create above the town their are confined to.
The series will be shot in HD to initially be released as online, broadcast quality webisodes along with a wealth of cross-platform media to support it. Integrated into each episode will be supporting motion comics, a blog from one of the leading characters, footage shot by the cast on set whilst filming as well as Banter Media putting on events in Manchester, promoted in the show, with the cast present in character. All of this content will also be available on mobile devices.
The bursary will cover the costs of the pilot package and its release through streetsabove.com. This revolutionary new distribution model will hopefully set a precedent for other creatives who have a wealth of ideas but no access to market. Once the package is live on the site we will be encouraging sponsors to back the further funding of the series as well as inviting them to the events which link into the series. The pilot episode will leave room for plenty of cross-platform integration and a staggered release of the supporting media content so as to prolong the catchment period of each episodes release.
Banter Media have vast experience shooting on location and on a shoe-string budget. Their first feature Ex Cathedra cost less than a decent family car to make but has all the production values of a top Brit flick.
Streets Above will be their next big venture and the production values will amaze. They are well versed in detailed budgeting and keeping costs down. A full break down of all costs is available and evidence that this can be made for the sum required.
Banter also has the heads of department for the production team at the ready and will be using upcoming filmmakers from Manchester to take part in all other aspects of the production giving young filmmakers a chance to get involved in a big scale project.
Lastly, this is a project that means a lot to all of us involved both at Banter Media and Apex. We have a mix of talents and want to collaborate on this project to show what can be down when two different groups put their heads together and put the work in.
Embedded video produced by Banter Media featuring Apex Parkour.
This is going to be mint when it gets made! Just checked out the lads from Apex on youtube- some sick vids guys.

yeah keep the drugs in check! free runners who think they can fly would be dangerous
Posted by alexroberts on Jul 26th, 2010
Nice idea. Parkour should allow for some funky creative expression. just don't mix it with Skins too much, otherwise they'll all be high as kites/three sheets to the wind when free-running, and that would = an unsexy amount of broken limbs.
